Travel Clinic – indication for yellow fever vaccine

Susceptible adults and children aged 9 months or over who require primary immunization at our travel clinic or booster vaccination against yellow fever at citydoc travel clinic. For personal protection or in order to comply with International Health Regulations, or both (the requirement for vaccination at citydoc travel clinic against yellow fever is not always related to risk of exposure to disease).

Travel Clinic – contraindications to vaccine

  • Children aged less than 6months who attend citydoc travel clinic

  • Those who have had confirmed anaphylactic reaction to previous dose of yellow fever vaccine attending citydoc travel clinic

  • Immunosuppression- are advised at our travel clinic against vaccination

  • Those who have had a confirmed anaphylactic reaction to egg or chicken protein at our travel clinic against vaccination

  • Those who have a history of thymus disorder.presenting to citydoc travel clinic
Those with current severe febrile illness at their travel clinic appointment

  • At the travel clinic appt we advise of possible side effects and their management
    • Common side effects usually disappear within 1-2 days without treatment

  • Patients with unusual or persistent side effects should be reviewed by a GP at the travel clinic

  • Advise patients personal food hygiene and the use of clean (boiled or bottled) water and/or use of sterilising tablets

  • We Give advise on additional vaccines required at the travel clinic review
Certificate of vaccination is valid ten days post vaccination at citydoc travel clinic

Patients will be advised at their travel clinic consultation of potential side effects. Local reactions at the injection site. Systemic reactions (fever, headache, Myalgia, asthenia, rash, urtcaria and lymphadenopathy) may occur from four to encephaphalomyelitis, demyelination syndrome, Guillian Barré) (Yellow fever associated neurotropic disease – ) Those aged 60 years attending our travel clinic and older are at higher risk of adverse reaction.
