  • Those living in areas or travelling to countries where the disease is epidemic or highly endemic attending citydoc travel clinic

  • Close contacts of patients with the disease visting the travel clinic

  • Individuals with terminal complement component deficiency and functional or actual splenectomy attending travel clinic review
Patients will be identified following travelling risk assessment at their travel clinic consult and use of online tools (Nathnac, fit for travel).

Travel Clinic – contraindications to vaccine

  • No valid consent given at the travel clinic consultation

  • Hypersensitivity to any excipients of the vaccine expressed at the travel clinic appointment

  • ACWY Vax should not be administered to subjects who have had a hypersensitivity reaction to a previous dose of ACWY Vax vaccine at our travel clinic

  • Acute febrile illness (minor illness not contraindication) – at citydoc travel clinic

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding – will be advised at travel clinic appt to avoid

Details of the side effects will be discussed at the travel clinic consultation.

Very common, Myalgia, headache, malaise, nausea, diarrhoea, pain at injection site, oedema, eythema at injection site. Common side effects usually disappear within 1-2 days without treatment. We also give advice at our travel clinic on additional vaccines required for area of travel.
