STD Test - Worrying HIV Ignorance in Young
HIV is the most dangerous infection an STD test can reveal. But new reports reveal that nine in ten young people rarely think about HIV or consider the disease in their sex lives.
It’s a scary thought – that nine out of ten young people don’t even think about HIV let alone contemplate taking an STD test for the disease. The BBC in conjunction with the Terrence Higgins Trust surveyed 1,500 young people and uncovered the worrying attitude. It has as a result launched a UK campaign to raise awareness and encourage more people to step forward and take an STD test for HIV.
STD Test – It’s Vital to Act Today
Only an STD test can reveal if you have HIV and yet many young people are in absolute ignorance about the dangers. Many believe myths and misconceptions about the disease, such as the idea you can catch it from kissing and toilet seats. In the 1980s, many of us were exposed to the scary and shocking TV ad campaign warning us against AIDS. AIDS was constantly in the news and the nation feared it could even wipe out the human race – there was no medication to keep the virus from turning into full blown AIDS back then. Now however, by taking an STD test and subscription medicine, it’s possible to live a long life and manage the disease.
Young People not Coming Forward for STD Test
There are concerns that HIV cases in the younger generation could be higher then expected due to the fact many simply aren’t coming forward for an STD test for HIV. Health Protection Agency figures demonstrate that HIV and sexually transmitted diseases are steadily increasing in the under 24-year-old group. Campaigns have been launched to encourage younger people to take STD tests and raise awareness about the importance of safe sex and STD testing.
Under-24s don’t think about STD Test or Safe Sex
Many young people wouldn’t even think about taking an STD test for HIV as 49% of those surveyed said they believed there was no risk of them getting HIV. It’s thought that the ignorance surrounding the disease is at an all-time high amongst young people – who are statistically more at risk of catching an STD.
