HIV Test – London at Risk
Are you concerned about a HIV test? London is thought to have a ‘high’ level of ignorance when it comes to the disease.
HIV Test – London Ignorance
A report by the London Health Observatory a couple of years ago revealed that ignorance of HIV was high in London. If you are looking for a HIV test, London is one of the well-serviced cities with accessible STD clinics available. And yet it was thought in 2005 that there were around 8,600 undiagnosed cases of HIV, and there was a sharp rise amongst heterosexuals in the capital.
HIV and London’s diverse demographic
London is a vast demographic consisting of many different ethnic groups, income levels and variations in social, cultural and economic backgrounds. On top of that, the capital is a transient city with visitors and workers passing through at a fast rate. It’s important than that there are accessible clinics that offer a quick and simple HIV test, London is a vast community and although well-educated professionals may be aware of the risks of the disease, research shows that there are those who are taking potentially fatal risks.
Stereotypes and HIV
There is perhaps a stereotype that it’s only homosexuals who are victims of HIV but more and more heterosexuals should be taking a HIV Test – London Health Observatory revealed that the fastest rise in HIV cases was amongst heterosexuals.
It also showed that black Africans had a sharp increase in the disease – a three-fold rise – it’s thought that most of those infected would have picked up the virus abroad.
HIV Test – Londoners at risk
In 2005, there were just over 20,000 diagnosed cases of HIV, but there could be many more people who haven’t yet taken a HIV test – London is thought to have around 8,500 infected people that have not been diagnosed. The research also showed that the largest group of people who receive treatment for the disease are homosexuals. This could be because the homosexual community is more historically aware and conscious of HIV and AIDS. The worry is that for those who have not had a HIV test Londoners are at risk of becoming victims of the disease if proper protection and precautions are not used. And if somebody is unaware that they are carrying the virus the consequences could be disastrous.
