MMR Vaccine – Myth Busters
According to a report in the Times, 30 leading paediatricians have warned that more children will die unless the erroneous information regarding the MMR vaccine is dismissed.
Since the MMR vaccine was first utilised in the UK in 1988, the instances of the disease have never been lower but the level of uptake still isn’t at the required level. A report in the Times states that a line needs to be drawn beneath the long since discredited link between the MMR vaccine and autism in order to decrease the risk of an outbreak of measles, mumps and rubella.
MMR Vaccine – Preventing An Outbreak
According to the report in the Times, 30 leading paediatricians have stated their belief that parents have been ‘confused and misled’ regarding the MMR vaccine and that they need to be reassured as to the safety of the vaccine. They point to the fact that there is absolutely no credited evidence that points to a link between the MMR vaccine and autism and parents should be encouraged to ensure their children receive the inoculation and limit the risk of an outbreak of the diseases it is designed to prevent.
MMR Vaccine – Getting To The Truth
When speaking to the Times, one of the paediatricians stated, “The time has come to draw a line under the question of any association between MMR vaccine and autism. A large body of scientific evidence shows no link between the vaccine and autism or bowel disease. Confidence in the safety of the MMR vaccine had been returning and its uptake slowly increasing. It would be tragic if it is once again shaken by ill-informed reporting of inadequate, preliminary research and supposition.”
MMR Vaccine – Health Boost
The MMR vaccine has been instrumental in keeping measles, mumps and rubella at bay in the UK but outbreaks of these, potentially very serious diseases, can still occur due to parents being wary of the inoculation. However, the moral panic regarding the MMR vaccine has been proven to be ill informed and parents are being encouraged to ensure that their children are vaccinated against the triumvirate of diseases.
