Cervical Cancer Vaccines-Gardasil

Gardasil is a non-infectious vaccine which helps prevent diseases caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) subtypes ( 6,11,16 and 18). HPV is associated with-

  • Cervical Cancer
  • Genital Warts
  • Pre-cancerous lesions of cervix, vagina and vulva
  • Penile cancer and types of anal cancer

HPV is a common virus. Many people with HPV have no symptoms and can pass it on to others by genital skin to skin contact. Subtypes 16 and 18 cause 70% of cases of cervical cancer and subtypes 6 and 11 90% of genital warts.

Vaccine works best when given before you have contracted HPV.
